NAS President to Give State of the Science Address
Marcia McNutt will deliver the inaugural “State of the Science” address, which will explore the health of the U.S. scientific enterprise and its ability to compete globally and contribute to the nation’s economy, security, public health, and quality of life. The address takes place June 26 in Washington, D.C.

Madni Gift (Further) Advances Transdisciplinary Systems Engineering
Azad M. Madni (NAE '21), recipient of the 2023 Bernard M. Gordon Prize for Innovation in Engineering and Technology Education (Gordon Prize), has generously designated his $250,000 prize winnings back to the National Academy of Engineering (NAE), creating the Azad M. and Carla Madni Fund for Transdisciplinary Systems Engineering.

The Great Hall Society is the National Academies’ new leadership annual giving society. The support of Great Hall Society members embodies the aspirational heights of the Great Hall located in our historic National Academy of Science (NAS) Building. With leadership-level support, the National Academies can enrich the industries of science, engineering, and medicine and proactively advise the most urgent and unexpected policy matters. These distinguished donors make gifts or recurring gifts with an annual total of $5,000 or more across the National Academies in a calendar year.

Loyal donors are the cornerstone of the National Academies’ success, providing the sustaining means by which the Academies can carry out its mission to facilitate solutions to complex challenges by mobilizing expertise, practice, and knowledge in science, engineering, and medicine. To recognize this important commitment, the Loyalty Society of the National Academies honors Academy members and friends who understand the impact of annual giving and have made consecutive annual gifts to the National Academies for giving milestones of 3, 10, and 20 years or more. The Loyalty Society also celebrates those who provide sustaining support through a recurring donation.

Gifts and grants are tax-deductible when made to the National Academy of Sciences, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, which includes the National Academy of Engineering and National Academy of Medicine.
The National Academy of Engineering's independent assets and operating funds are held in the National Academy of Engineering Fund (NAEF), a tax-exempt corporation under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. NAEF was created to support the mission and goals of the NAE. Gifts and grants to the NAE/NAEF are tax-deductible.
